- Prepare specimens for testing or transport: clotting time, centrifuging, aliquoting, serum versus plasma, freezing or refrigeration
- Maintain specimen integrity by handling requirements (temperature, light, time), follow chain of custody and clinical research packaging protocols, and recognize specimen rejection causes such as hemolysis
- Enter and retrieve specimen data in the laboratory information system, recognize and report critical values for point-of-care and CLIA-waived tests, distribute results, and contact patients for recollection
