What changed
January 7, 2026: a new CPT exam
NHA moved the CPT exam to a test plan built on a 2024 job analysis. It is still 100 scored items plus 20 unscored pretest items in 2 hours, split across five domains: Safety and Compliance 26, Patient Preparation 20, Routine Blood Collections 28, Special Collections 12, Processing 14.
Every question here is tagged to one of those five domains, so your weakest area shows up by name. If you fail within 30 days before a new version goes live, NHA has said you retest on the new version, which is another reason to study from the current plan.
120 items: 100 scored plus 20 unscored pretest items, 2 hours · 120 minutes · $125 fee · passing scaled score 390. Source: official content outline.
