ATI TEAS 7 content outline, section by section
The ATI TEAS 7 has 170 questions (150 scored, 20 unscored) in four timed sections: Reading 39 scored questions in 55 minutes, Mathematics 34 in 57, Science 44 in 60, and English and Language Usage 33 in 37, for 209 minutes in total. Those four sections split into 12 sub-content areas, and your score report shows each one.
How many questions are on the TEAS?
The ATI TEAS 7 has 170 questions, and 150 of them count toward your score. The other 20 are unscored pretest questions mixed into the four sections. You get 209 minutes in total: Reading 45 questions in 55 minutes, Math 38 in 57, Science 50 in 60, and English 37 in 37.
What is a passing score on the TEAS?
There is no universal TEAS passing score. ATI leaves the minimum to each nursing or allied health program, and ATI itself describes a competitive score as typically around 70% to 75%. Published minimums range widely: the five colleges below ask for anything from 52 to 68 on the total score.
TEAS Reading: what is on it and how to prepare
The TEAS 7 Reading section has 45 questions, 39 of them scored, in 55 minutes. The scored questions split into Key Ideas and Details (15), Craft and Structure (9), and Integration of Knowledge and Ideas (15), and together they make up 26% of your scored questions.
TEAS Math: topics, formulas and sample questions
The TEAS 7 Mathematics section has 38 questions, 34 of them scored, in 57 minutes: 18 on Numbers and Algebra and 16 on Measurement and Data. It is general math in everyday settings, not nursing dosage calculation, and a calculator is built into the exam.
TEAS Science: what is tested and where to focus
The TEAS 7 Science section has 50 questions, 44 of them scored, in 60 minutes: Human Anatomy and Physiology 18, Biology 9, Chemistry 8 and Scientific Reasoning 9. At 44 scored questions it is the largest section on the test, about 29% of your score, and anatomy and physiology alone is the biggest single sub-content area.
TEAS English and Language Usage: what to review
The TEAS 7 English and Language Usage section has 37 questions, 33 of them scored, in 37 minutes: Conventions of Standard English 12, Knowledge of Language 11 and Vocabulary Acquisition 10. It is the last section and the fastest-paced, at one minute per question.
TEAS study time, cost and retakes
Plan on about six weeks of study for the TEAS; that is the minimum Indian Hills Community College cites from ATI. The exam typically costs $65 to $125 per attempt depending on where you test, and retake limits and waiting periods are set by each program, commonly three attempts in 12 months.
